Japan is getting its largest dedicated pickleball facility when Pickleball Base Osaka opens on April 1, 2026, at Hotel Agora Regency Osaka Sakai in Sakai City. The six-court venue occupies the hotel's sixth floor and is directly connected to Sakai Station, giving players across the Osaka region easy access to the country's most purpose-built pickleball space to date. Pickleball Base Osaka features six international-standard courts with professional lighting and daily operating hours from 8:00 to 22:00. Programs ranging from beginner lessons to competitive training and a junior academy will be available from opening day. What Is Pickleball Base Osaka?

Pickleball Base Osaka is a dedicated pickleball facility operated by Fundamental Japan Co., Ltd., occupying the sixth floor of Hotel Agora Regency Osaka Sakai. The hotel connects directly to Sakai Station, giving the facility excellent accessibility for players across the Osaka region. The venue offers six courts built to international standards, with professional lighting supporting play across all hours of operation.

Who Is Behind the Facility?

Kento Tagashira, a professional tennis player and vice director and head coach of the Kinki University tennis club, serves as director of Pickleball Base Osaka. Tagashira will coach on the courts himself, bringing competitive-level expertise directly to players of every experience level." I want to create an environment where people from beginners to experienced players can enjoy pickleball together," Tagashira said.

What Programs Will Pickleball Base Osaka Offer?

From beginner lessons to competitive training and a junior academy, Pickleball Base Osaka is built for players of every level. A café is also in development for the facility. The courts are open daily from 8:00 to 22:00, accommodating morning sessions, lunch-hour play, and after-work games alike.

Filling a Gap in Japan's Pickleball Infrastructure

Most pickleball in Japan takes place in shared multi-use gyms or converted tennis courts—not dedicated pickleball spaces. Pickleball Base Osaka directly addresses that by providing a purpose-built environment where the sport is the primary focus. Tagashira envisions the facility as a potential model for nationwide expansion. A dedicated venue with consistent programming, a junior pathway, and accessible hours creates a foundation that shared-space facilities cannot easily replicate.

What It Means for Asian Pickleball

Japan has a growing competitive pickleball community, with players representing the country at regional events across Asia. A flagship dedicated venue in Osaka adds a new anchor point for the sport in a country where courts have been the primary limiting factor for growth. For Asian pickleball more broadly, Pickleball Base Osaka signals the next phase of infrastructure development—moving beyond improvised court conversions toward purpose-built venues that can sustain competitive play, junior development, and community programs at scale.
