The rooftop of One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya was electric from July 16–20 as Malaysia hosted the inaugural WPC Asia Pickleball Grand Slam. With more than 1,500 players expected to represent over 20 countries, the event marked Malaysia's largest international pickleball tournament to date.
Backed by CelcomDigi and integrated with Pickleball Global's international ranking system, the Grand Slam dished out RM 120,000 in prize money. Events ran across five jam-packed days and included singles, doubles, and mixed doubles brackets for youth, adult, and senior players.
Champions Rise Across the Draws
Across dozens of divisions and age groups, a constellation of champions rose to the occasion. Ryan Lam clinched gold in both the Men's Doubles 19+ Open and Mixed Doubles 19+ Open. His Mixed partner, Isha Lakhani, also doubled up with a title in Mixed Doubles 35+ Open alongside Mohd Faizal Othman, and in Women’s Doubles 19+ Open with Korea’s Mihae Kwon.
Carlos Rubio left a lasting impression, securing gold in Men’s Singles 35+ Open and Men’s Doubles 35+ Open with Muhammad Ashaari Zainal Abidin. Meanwhile, Sonu Kumar Vishwakarma powered to victory in the hotly contested Men's Singles 19+ Open.
On the women’s side, Mihika Yadav dominated the Women’s Singles 19+ Open bracket, while Onsuk Kim showcased her class by winning gold in both Women’s Doubles 50+ Open with Pini Lee and Women’s Singles 60+ Open. Jas Almaguer and Yung-Hsin Tseng also delivered a flawless performance in the Women’s Doubles 19+ Open.

William Chang, president of the Perak Pickleball Association, and Loke Fu Foo impressed with a gold-medal finish in Men’s Doubles 60+ Elite, showcasing veteran skill and chemistry.
From fresh faces to seasoned legends, the full slate of medalists underscored the expanding depth and talent driving Asia’s fast-growing pickleball scene.
