The PPA Tour Asia – MB Vietnam Open reaches Championship Sunday today, closing a four-day launch that drew hundreds of amateur and professional players to Global City. The stop is both PPA Tour Asia’s first event in Vietnam and its first competition staged outdoors, a format wrinkle that has shaped tactics all week. The event is another milestone in the rise of pickleball in Asia, where more countries are now hosting international tournaments.

Championship Stakes

Titles across singles and doubles will be settled today. Singles champions earn US$1,800 and doubles winners take US$3,000. In line with tour procedures, singles champions collect 1,000 ranking points, and players who reached the round of 16 receive US$150.

Powerhouses to Watch

Vietnam’s home charge has been led by Trinh Linh Giang (PPA Malaysia Open champion) and Huynh Thien Phuc (Fukuoka Open runner-up), alongside Ly Hoang Nam and Si Boi Ngoc. Regional firepower includes Wong Hong Kit (Hong Kong Open champion).

Australia arrived deep with No. 2 seed Mitchell Hargreaves, plus Louis Laville, Harrison Brown, and Lucas Pascoe, the eighteen-year-old gaining valuable late-season reps. Vanshik Kapadia of India, a Malaysia Open finalist, added weight to the men’s field.

On the women’s side, the title conversation has featured Yufei Long (China), Yu-Chieh Hsieh (Taiwan), Nicola Schoeman (Australia), and Roos van Reek (Netherlands), the reigning Hong Kong Open winner.

Crowd, Courts, and Firsts

Four court clusters, including a championship show court built to PPA Tour Asia competition standards—have kept play moving despite wind and midday heat. The outdoor setup has rewarded patient point-building, safer third-shot drops, and deeper returns—especially in mixed doubles when pace changes quickly at the kitchen line.

Weekend access sold out in advance and weekday seats were briefly available at VND185,000; about US$7.

“This is the first ticketed pickleball event ever held in Vietnam,” said Nguyen Hai Long, pickleball development director at New Sports, a co-organizer. “We sold out 400 regular and 100 VIP tickets in just two hours.”

Pickleball in Vietnam

Vietnam’s first PPA Tour Asia stop puts a spotlight on the country’s explosive pickleball community and fast-forming club ecosystem. Organizers confirmed a second Vietnam stop on the PPA Asia tour in Da Nang later this year, giving fans a quick sequel and athletes another chance to bank points on Vietnamese soil.

More broadly, the Vietnam Open strengthens the identity of pickleball Asia, showing how regional tournaments can connect local talent to the global stage.
